Dogs on the beach
Dogs on East Sussex beaches
Where the council bans dogs from a beach, and when, taken from its own order. Each town below has the stretches in the order's words and today's answer.
Along the coast
- HastingsNo ban today.
From Hastings Borough Council's Public Spaces Protection Order (No 4) Hastings Borough Council 2023, as varied on 18 February 2025, which runs until 6 November 2026. We read it on 1 October 2026.
Brighton and Hove's order also bans dogs from most of its beaches from May to September, Eastbourne's from the beach between the pier and the Wish Tower, Rother's from beaches at Bexhill, Camber and Pett Level, and Lewes's byelaws from part of Seaford beach. We have not placed these yet, so those beaches are not listed here.
What the orders say here
Hastings Borough Council has put 1 stretch of beach off limits to dogs and 5 more on a lead, across 1 town.
The season is 1 April to 30 September, all day.
Each answer is worked out on the day, in UK time, from the order's own dates, so a ban that has not started or has ended says so. Where we have not placed an order on a beach, the page says that, and never reads silence as permission.
