Can dogs go on The Lizard beach?

From 1 July to 31 August every year, from 10:00 to 18:00, dogs are banned from part of Kynance Cove, Housel Bay and Kennack Sands under Cornwall Council's Dogs on Beaches Public Spaces Protection Order 2026, which runs until 12 April 2029. The rest of the year the ban is not in force.

Can I take my dog on The Lizard beach today?

The ban on part of Kynance Cove, Housel Bay and Kennack Sands runs 1 July to 31 August, so today, Tuesday 13 October, it is not in force. It starts again on 1 July 2027.

The council publishes a map of each beach only as a picture, so the shaded areas are drawn by us from those maps.

The year at The Lizard

From 1 July to 31 August (62 days) dogs are banned from Kynance Cove, Housel Bay and Kennack Sands, from 10:00 to 18:00.

For the other 303 days of the year no ban holds on those stretches.
