How to find an enclosed dog field near you, and what the open map holds
Start with a directory of hired fields, because they hold far more than any open map, then ask your council's parks team. The open map, OpenStreetMap, shows 567 dog parks and fields in Great Britain, but only 85 are clearly ones you hire. Whatever you find, ask the owner about the fence and the booking.

Searching for "enclosed dog field near me" gets you two kinds of answer. One is a directory of fields you can hire, which holds a lot. The other is an open map of dog parks, which holds far less and is free to use. Here is what each holds, so you know how far to trust an empty result.
The open map, OpenStreetMap
OpenStreetMap is a map anyone may add to, and its data is free to reuse if you credit it. It has a tag for a dog park, an area set aside for dogs. We counted every one in Great Britain, and every field named like a dog field, on 29 September 2026: 567. We sorted them only by what each one's own tags say.
- 85 clearly hired: a fee, a booking link, or private ground with a website of its own.
- 52 free: a council or a trust runs it, or it is tagged as free.
- 43 private: private or for customers only, with nothing to book it by.
- 387 not stated. Of these, 112 look hired, because they have a website of their own or a name like "Dog Field", but the map does not say.
It tells you where, and sometimes whether you pay. It does not tell you the price, the fence height, whether the field is yours alone, how to book, or whether it still exists. It is a floor, not a list of what is out there. OpenStreetMap, dog park tag.
What it showed near the places people searched
People searched for an enclosed dog field in 185 places, mostly towns, and some whole counties. For each one we looked for a candidate within 10 km, or inside the county.
The numbers
| Within 10 km | Places |
|---|---|
| A field clearly hired | 30 |
| A field hired or probably hired | 65 |
| Any dog park or field | 125 |
| Nothing found | 59 |
OpenStreetMap had a dog park or field within reach of 125 of the 185, but a clearly hired field near only 30. Add the ones that look hired and it is 65. For the 59 with nothing found, that is the map's silence. A town with no field on the map is a town where nobody has added one.
The private directories
The private directories hold far more. On 7 October 2026 offlead said it lists 1,300+ private hire fields, and PawsField showed 1,266 records across 69 counties, 45 of them marked verified bookable. Many fields will be on more than one, so these are not 2,500 fields. offlead and PawsField.
We have no deal with either, we earn nothing from them, and we are not recommending one over the other. A directory is a good place to look. It is still somebody's listing, so use it the way you would use any: check the fence, the booking and the price with the owner.
Your council
Some councils run their own enclosed paddock and let you book it by the hour. Crawley Borough Council does at Tilgate Park. There is no national list of these, so the way to find out is to ask a council's parks team, or look on its parks pages. What an enclosed dog field is has the questions to ask once you have found one.
What the app does today
Searching for "dog field" or "enclosed field" in Trekosa shows the nearest dog parks from OpenStreetMap, under the line "We don't list fields you can hire yet." It does not call anything secure, because nothing we hold has seen a fence. When we list hired fields, each will carry its source and the date it was last checked, we will not rank them, and nobody will pay to be shown.
Questions this answers
- How do I find an enclosed dog field near me?
- Search a directory of hired fields by postcode or town, ask your council's parks team whether it runs one, and check anything you find with the owner. The open map, OpenStreetMap, holds only 85 clearly hired fields across Great Britain, so it will often show nothing where a directory shows several.
- Does Trekosa list fields you can hire?
- Not yet. Searching for a dog field shows the nearest dog parks from OpenStreetMap, and says so. When we list hired fields each will carry its source and the date it was last checked.
- How many enclosed dog fields are there in the UK?
- Nobody holds a count we can check. Two directories said on 7 October 2026 that they list about 1,300 and 1,266 fields, and they almost certainly overlap. OpenStreetMap holds 567 dog parks and fields in Great Britain, 85 of them clearly hired.
- Why does the map show no field near me?
- Because an open map only holds what a volunteer has added. In our check of 185 places people had searched for, OpenStreetMap showed a hired field within 10 km of 30 of them. For the other places that is the map's silence, not proof there is none.
